XIBALBA - Ah - is much near to IMMORTAL than DARKTHRONE
The influence of Diabolical Fullmoon is obvious, but it is nevertheless an excellent album which has very good atmospheres.
The use of the Spanish language would have been more logical than the infamous English language.

Don't they use some local dialect too ? IMO, this album is one of the highlights of the 90's Black-Metal. Of course it draws heavily its inspiration from IMMORTAL and DARKTHRONE, but it goes beyond too. It's not a story of stolen riffs or so -like NEHEMAH do for example-. It's more doing something "in the spirit of". And well, there are some nasty riffs there, an overall rawness and such an evil feeling sweating from this record.

The demos are worth hearing too. They're a bit more generic, but still worthy to hear.

BTW, I'm searching for a way to get the Ancients CD which contains all demos from the band. I only own the split with AVZHIA and the album on CD.

More generic? You mean less TNBM-influenced?

I totally agree with you. Anyway, Xibalba is indeed a great band but I don't consider them as a clone of Immortal or Darkthrone. The influences are there but not too strong at all.

The split with AVZHIA is more melodic Norwegian influenced, and the previous demo (I need at least something better than a mp3 for these, a tape dub or so) is rawer and with less atmosphere.

Interesting !
Well, look at Yaotl Mictlan. In their lyrics (all written in Spanish !), they talk about Aztec paganism and culture and about the destruction of the Pre Columbian civilizations caused by the conquistadores.
What's the most suitable language for these bands ?
I would say at first Nahuatl or any other indigenous language but Spanish remains the official language in Mexico. I've got lots of friends there and most of them don't know these indigenous languages. We can discuss about that in another topic if you wish.

well, Yaotl Micltan is another band.
I just checked Metal Archivos, and :

Their look is more about current culture, no pasaran, chicano gang, Kommander Marco stuff...
I don't know if they took this picture as a joke, but to me they don't really look "honest" to the aztec paganism and such. A bit like Sepultura (german-italian-portugueche breeds, and one ! indian/african breed, Paulo Jr) who speaks about the ancient culture of a country they don't really belong to (I mean culture, not country).

Anyway, to me, a south american band singing about old tradition etc should sing in either old language, either another language to be honest and faithful to their concept.
Or it's a political choice. Singing in their language to be understood from the people of their countries, then their message could be spread.
This is at least my own appreciation. People can agree or disagree.

Providing translations of the songs, even on the website if the label doesn't want to pay for extra pages in the booklet, isn't a bad idea at all.

It is not exact.
The conquistadores are responsible for the fall of the Aztec empire, but not of precolombian civilizations.
Aztec was very gifted and intelligent, but also very barbarian.
The conquistadores and missionnarys massacred much Aztec, but not much as Aztec between them.
In fact, Christianity stopped a lot of bloody sacrifices

This is a Christian colonialist point of view. "We civilized them because they were savages who ate each other"

The only culture which caused and still causes great damage to humanity and to planet Earth is the Western one.

This is not a christian point of view but a historic point of view.

You really think that art, architecture, mathematics, philosophy, physics, the sport, the music, the cinema, ect... coming from the West is destroying for the world?

Perhaps you prefer the culture of tam-tam.

While this Western culture is highly destructive, other cultures have done a lot of harm to the environment, to the point of destroying themselves or at least making themselves only a pale shadow of what they were. It's the case of the Maya culture, some indigenous cultures in America, in the Pacific, the civilization in Thailand that made the Angkor-Wat temples, etc.
Environmental factors didn't always play the main role in the fall of civilizations, but they often had an important role.

I don't know which massacres you are talking about ("bloody sacrifices"). From a historic point of view, all I know is that before the coming of European colons, American natives were millions, whereas today their population has dissolved into miscegenation and nearly disappeared.

These are only instruments. Until now, what were they used for? Waging wars, destroying ancient nations, spreading the capitalist virus, exterminating animal species, running out terrestrial resources, harming the planet and biosphere, and ultimately disturbing the climate and water equilibrium. What a great success! Only two centuries to ruin the Earth.

I honestly don't know much about these civilisations, since I haven't studied them yet, but it seems to me that they didn't reach the proper technologic level to be able to harm the environment.

In the case of Western civilisation, they are currently playing a major role. We are doomed and I think it's too late to avoid the consequences of hyperindustrialisation.

The situation that you describe was inevitable for humanity. With this fault, the civilizations Occidental is nevertheless the most great having existed on Earth.
Don't worry Szatan, but soon we go colonized the Moon, Mars, the solar system, galaxy, universe…
There are probably billion planets similar to the Earth.

We don't need advanced technology to harm environment. History has proven it several times. See my previous examples for more information !

Progress was the real myth of the XXth Century. It most probably keeps this role in this early years of the XXIst one.
