Necrosadistic Goat Torture - "Armageddon Shall Come" album review :
Nowadays, it is very difficult to find extreme metal bands who deliver compositions reflecting the great old spirit of the eighties and beginning of the nineties. Necrosadistic Goat Torture is part of those few hordes who are able to reach this achievement. Formed in London in 2003, this infernal act consists of musicians coming from different European countries (including Russia, Denmark, Poland and United Kingdom) and as a consequence, mustn't be considered as a UK band but definitely as European.
After two demos, two self-produced EPs and many line-up changes, they finally released their first album through French cult label Drakkar Productions in 2012. Of course, there is no need to present in details this great underground label who, since 1994, has released so many demos, EPs and albums that became classics through the years within the black metal scene. Their owner Noktu (also leader of Celestia and Mortifera) wasn’t mistaken at all by opening his gates to this legion of goat demons. “Armageddon Shall Come” has clearly shown that they didn’t take any prisoners!
It is without any doubt one of the best blackened death metal albums of the last ten years. All the explosive ingredients to carve a masterpiece are gathered in this blasphemous massacre: destructive riffs, inspired guitar solos, impressive extreme vocal skills and very good musicianship. It contains eight tracks of old-school blasting black/death/thrash metal that remind me, musically and lyrically speaking, the US and Latin American scenes from the 80s and beginning of the 90s. The traditional South American/Brazilian touch can be felt with pleasure in their devastating compositions. Bearing funny stage names (GoatManiac, Goatmaster, Goatlord, GoatTerrorist, Goatrapist), they also know how to produce some good melodies, especially on “Armageddon Shall Come” which is their best song in my opinion. GoatManiac’s hateful vocals are absolutely insane throughout this opus that includes a kind of bonus track. Indeed, it’s the original rehearsal version of “Will to Power” where his voice reminds me the one of Famine on Peste Noire’s cult controversial demo “Macabre Transcendance...” from 2002.
Necrosadistic Goat Torture is currently one of the most promising blackened death metal acts and they have already proven they are excellent on stage as well. Let’s hope they will release a second unholy assault very soon. I think it will be a very hard task for them to surpass “Armageddon Shall Come”, unless those sadistic goats have some great ideas for their next atrocities...
