thanks for the reply

Kristijan is amazing, it really adds a new dimension to the music... I must say I never heard anything prior to Void by Kristijan.

I have the death hymen tape, another release would be cool as I really enjoy the first one (and my girl too, but that's another story)
but I never heard anything by Black Seas Of Infinity, I see they have a new release out on AWP, did you hear it?

I hope you do a (non metal) project with Xardas, 20.SV is fucking insane.

The thing with Xardas sounds like a mix of Vomit Orchestra and 20.SV. Maybe that should be obvious, but it really is a mixture of the two.

The new Black Seas of Infinity is fucking amazing. Check it out for sure.

I liked this album, quite a bold progression for Vrolok, not an unexpected one though. I didn't "get" the lyrics but D. did explain why this might be so, heh. Quite a hard album to get into at first glance...

Black Terror Metal 'zine:
4/5

Unholy Cult:

Vrolok - Void (The Divine Abortion)
(Album of the Week 6-17-24-2007)

These days everything is played as fast as humanly possible with some bands loaded up on enough speed inducing chemicals to put down a horny rhinoceros. Outside of the abuse of triggers, Pro-Tools, and other new and dubiously improved studio tricks, playing with the velocity of a fighter jet isn’t anything new in Metal. Therefore, it is usually awesome to hear a mid-paced effort with a frighteningly ritualistic ambiance that squirms and grows in your guts like dracunculiasis.

Vrolok is a Black Metal band from the USA whose album ‘Void (The Divine Abortion)’ is a beautiful masterpiece of wickedness. The entire album is saturated in primordial ooze, and the fucking disc reeks of orgy sweat, blood, wax, and homicide. Each note played seems to have been as carefully placed as a stroke from Picasso’s brush. A crushing vibe drools into ears from brief Doom like interludes, but most of the music is mid tempo with intermittent injections of ritualistic Jim Morrison Rock and Roll via ominous cymbal play. Eerie choral voices and miserable howls enter the music then disappear like ghosts. Lead vocals have an enchantingly twisted mid throat shriek, which produces an almost narrative style of singing. Haunting keyboards slither coldly across your sleeping figure like a nocturnal viper. Guitars shimmer-n-shake in creepy acidic strums or they take on long harmonic melodies like a deep ecstasy penetration. Drums flow exquisitely in unique patterns contrasted against an unhurried cadence. Enhancing this earthquake of sabbatical delight is a distorted bass pirouetting with the hypnotizing portent of an evil woman’s smiling hips.

All the tracks on ‘Void (The Divine Abortion)’ are played wonderfully. Each song is multifaceted whether its in pace, or instrument play with the definite all encompassing highlight being the title cut, “Void.” I think production is an overrated idea based more on the audience’s arbitrary perception of music clarity than actual ambiance. By comparison, what makes Vrolok’s performance on this recording astounding is the ritualistic vibe trickling off this disc compelling me to imagine languidly entranced dancers weaving their way to an alter with sacred knives to sever Christ from the womb. Goddamn this disc is sublime, and that my Metal friends, is why you are going to buy it.

("musician's note" from D.: One thing I have to mention is that there aren't any keyboards on this album, all the instruments are real. Not sure where the Doors reference comes from, nor the fact he sort of neglected that the album is very fast for a good amount of the time, but I can't complain too much.)

Blackmetalonline:
(I might have posted this already...)

9/10

-----------------

(The most negative feedback I've received thus far, review or otherwise.)
Elskrin Webzine:
(7/10)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sort of disappointed that it hasn't been mentioned, so far as a "translator" online goes, that the album's tuned to A the majority of the time. I was hoping that'd be expressed a bit more.(On a related note, I've been sort of pissed that many people haven't "understood" the fact that the Vrolok- Resurgence (I, II, and III) CDs are NOT "albums" in the true sense of the word. They're something far different than an album, different than a demo, etc... They are Vrolok in title, but they're more of something introverted and for my own personal sake, whereas the albums are my extroverted expressions. Vrolok has only released two albums, period. Anyways a lot of reviews keep comparing Soul Amputation and Void to those, which should prove itself to be a worthless thing to do. They're entirely unrelated. None of this goes to say I dislike them, quite the contrary. But again, there's no true relation.)

I got this album a few days ago, I was very impressed. Some of the most original and well thought out black metal I have heard in a while.
Very unusual (well, from what I have heard in the black metal genre) but just fantastic, really really recommended.

Because I'm the only member (save for the drummer, who lives a thousand miles from me), and the energy and time that'd be required to get a band together unfortunately isn't practical at this point. Most tracks would require three guitarists, plus I'd need a bass player and some behind-the-curtain work.

The Void guitars are almost always playing different things from one another, plus the leads that exist on top of that would necessitate three guitar players, for instance, and with the other organic instruments used, there would have to be someone running them from a computer. Not to mention I use unusual tunings a lot, spanning quite a few octaves, so each guitar player would basically need two guitars to switch off on.

Someday it'll happen, though.

I'm giving it a second spin tonight, and I have to say that my first impression is really good. I even sense some continuity in the genre, without stagnation, though.

And fuck, it's still sick and dark as Hell! Black-Metal is stil alive, hopefully.

Please man, never become the next WATAIN... Better keep playing top-quality music and release 1000 or 2000 copies of each album that will be cult in 10 years, than to release generic albums that will be forgotten in 10 years, except of some completists that praise the older crap only to avoid praising the newer one...

Thanks to both of you.

Watain is good how they are, no one should be copying that anymore. It's rather sickening, actually. A close contact of mine once jokingly referred to all of those bands as NWOWBM, "new wave of Watain black metal". I've no intention to stray from the course Vrolok's been following/evolving on by any means. The next album will be heavier, more "disturbing", and darker than Void. Similar lyrical concepts, a bit more abstract. I've noticed some younger bands already starting to copy the "Void sound", though. Time will show this...

I hope you have apreciated my review.
In my opinion, " Void" is a great masterpiece. Vrolok has its own black metal approach and a unique sound. The songs are also very original and create a great and impressive atmosphere.
I recommend everybody to buy this incredible release.

The next album is called "Astral Cognizance" and is just as far from Void as Void was far from Soul Amputation. Someone, somewhere might like it.
